What do I need to know about containers?

There’s lots of different models and generations of containers, some are very similar to each other and can be mixed up. A fundamental thing to know is the difference between High Cube containers and standard containers. The former one being 30 cm higher and thus more suitable for use as office or studio. If you walk around Frihamnstorget you can check out the difference for yourself. High cubes are more rare and hence more expensive. Containers vary greatly in quality (sometimes hidden defects also like rusty support beams underneath) and should be inspected carefully by someone with sufficient knowledge. Leaking roof is a big red flag. Problems with opening doors another big one. Also inspect rubber seals around doors for rat/vermin protection. Signs of impact damage such as fixes/patches, buckles is good to track. Some is fine depending on usage. There are also good resources to be found on Youtube describing specific aspects of this, like what to look out for when buying a second hand container for example.

How much does a container cost?

A container usually costs between 10.000 to 100.000 SEK, depending on type, size and quality. Most containers relevant for usage at Frihamnstorget costs around 15.000 to 50.000 SEK and you will probably end up with one around 30 000 SEK
Renovation costs (insulation, windows, etc) depend of course on your use and business but lie between 30 000 to 100 000 SEK.

How do I find a container?

We have a good professional relationship established since several years with Containertjänst.se But there are loads of places online where containers are bought and sold such as Blocket, Klaravik, Kvibergs and a number of container companies like Wikibox, MCR etc.

What modifications are needed?

Usual modifications needed for office/studio type usage: Insulation, Ventilation, Heating, Windows, Normal doors, Electricity/wiring, Lighting, New floor

How much is rent at Frihamnstorget?

Renting space for a 20ft container at Frihamnstorget costs 2000 SEK / month + VAT.If you want a 40ft container the rent will be 4000 SEK/month + VAT and so on. If you want space outside or infront of your container, we can discuss what you need, but count on rent of 2000 SEK per the size of a 20ft container.

What other costs do I need to concider?

You need to cover the cost of materials (window, door, wood etc) and the actual container. Transport is a cost factor as well. If it’s heavily modified (like missing walls/sides) it could make transport more expensive/complicated. Obviously its placement at the time of purchase is another one (on an island or in a place that doesn’t have strong enough roads/bridges to legally take heavy trucks for example). Count on paying a couple of thousand kr for transport of an empty 20 foot container within Stockholm region.

Where would my container be placed?

When you’ve presented your idea to us, we will sit down and discuss what location would suit your needs best.

What are the dimensions of a container?

A 20 ft container measures 2,35 m x 5,89 m on the inside. A 40 ft container measures 2,35 m x 12,01 m on the inside. A standard size container is 2,38 m and a high cube measures 2,69 m on inside.
